Advertisement vs. Reality
This is the sausage egg and cheese croissant in an advertisement photo.
Not so attractive when you order the real thing especially when all your eggs fall out, but it is a good breakfast sandwich. (Yes I did take a bite before I took the photo)

Surreal Photo Montage
I took a photo of one of my friends in a Buddha inspired pose and edited as to be the "balanced" out yin and yang. This in my opinion expresses tranquility and peace as the yin and yang battle out in a galactic world (the background of the image). Sometimes the bad out weighs the good and the good out weighs the bad and I wanted to be able to be able to express that through this surrealism photograph.

Surrealist Research
Pablo Picasso was also known as Pablo Ruiz y Picasso. He was born
on October 25 in the year 1881. Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, poet,
stage designer, and a playwright. He was one of the most famous artists of the
20th century because of his famous cubism art. He showed a passion
for art at an early age and as stated from researching his first words were
“piz, piz” which is short for lapiz the Spanish word for pencil. His father
started training him in arts around the age of seven.
His career is known to start in the year 1894
and rocketed when he created a piece called “The First Communion” (1986) which
depicts his sister, Lola who died at a young age of diphtheria. A “blue period”
as people would call is was a time period between 1901-1904 in which Picasso’s
painting were characterized as more of somber/sad shadings of blues and greens
and other gloomy shades. He went through a series of different styled paintings
and sculptors, etc. etc. through his life and died in the year 1973 on April 3rd.
His wife Jacqueline Roque was very upset by his death and ended up killing
herself by gunshot in 1986 at the age of 59.
Yves Tanguy was born in Paris, France in the year 1900 on January
5. Tanguy was career started when his friend introduced him to a group of
surrealist artist in 1924. After that he quickly developed his own unique
paintings and was given a contract to paint at least 12 paintings a year by
Andre Breton. Sadly, he did not meet the needs because of his income and
painted less and only came up with 8 pieces of art. Tanguy died of a fatal
stroke in the year 1955 at Woodbury. His body was cremated and his ashes were
saved until his wife died in 1963. After that his ashes were scattered on a
beach by his friend Pierre Matisse.

Title: Girl Before A mirror
Date: 1932
Description: A woman standing in front of a mirror looking at her
reflection which seems to be the darker side of her from the interpretation of
darker shades.
Analysis: This painting has many shapes and different colors which
clearly forms a woman and her reflection in the mirror. It shows depth and much
detail and has a smart choice of colors that create a lot of detail.
Interpretation: In my opinion Picasso does go with his similar
style of odd paintings but this is one my favorites. I feel as if it shows that
you can see your true colors through a second world. And in this painting the
woman’s darker side is showing through the mirror. She seems to be more gloomy
and sad.
Judgement: I really love this piece, it shows true honesty. The use
of color is smart and shows expresses the feeling that you get from viewing this
painting. From my point of view I feel as if it interprets showing the real
you. People cover their true feelings with smiles and “masks” every day and I feel
like he shows that in this painting because it might be that the woman is not truly
happy.

Title: The Rapidity of Sleep
Date: 1945
Description: A series of objects on the ground with the same color
shades of white and red, with dreamy clouds at the top of the painting.
Analysis: This piece shows a lot of detail with the random objects
at the bottom and is almost similar to a dream sequence as if you were really
sleeping and seeing this in your dreams. The first thing that captures your eye
is the different shaped and sized objects that seemed to be spread out across
the ground.
Interpretation: Though it is somewhat similar to his other styled
painting Tanguy still expresses his uniqueness of art in all of his painting
but this one is also another one of my favorites. It does represent somewhat of
a dream that you would have and it is very often that you would see random
objects in your sleep like this.
Judgement: I do really like this piece. It’s almost as if he
literally woke up from his sleep and painted what he dreamt about, which makes
me wonder if a lot of his painting came from his sleep as if he was trying to
remember the world that he sees in his sleep.

David Hockney Inspired Collage
For this photo I created multiple layers out of a distorted painting and created a David Hockney inspired photo. The odd painting seems to blend with the mixed up layers creating the perfect puzzle piece photograph.
SQUAREADY
Squaready is an app that allows you to put a
background to any of your photos. I find this app very useful because if you
have a photo that does not fit onto your social media then you can use Squaready
to keep the same quality of your picture but with a border of your choice. Not
only can you add a border but if you want to edit your photo before saving to
your phone with an in-app editor or 3 other choice of editors in the options
for photo editing. This app also allows you to easy crop your photo before
adding a border if you want to cut out a part of the picture chosen.
Squaready borders come in a series
of colors and patterns with even an option of blur effect. Personally I prefer
just a white background border just to capture the whole picture (which is
mostly selfies), but the blur effect adds more depth and detail to the overall
outcome of the photo. The problem that I have with this though is that sometime
that app runs a little slow and crashes in the middle of trying to edit the
size of the picture to fit the border, and there is no way of saving your
progress so if the app crashes you have to start all over again.
To edit
photos Squaready comes with 4 different photo editor options. These four
options are titled “Edit with Camera+”, “Edit with Gyro Cropper”, “Edit with
Gradgram”, and “Edit with in-app Editor”. As a frequent user of this app, I
prefer to use the in-app editor because it comes with many photo editing
options such as filter and other tools.
Overall I feel that this app is
good for daily use of any photo that you want to show full depth in, and also
for posting good quality selfies. I would suggest this app to other people who
like to edit their photos to create more of an “eye-capturing” photograph.

Portrait Series - Ros J.
In the top and bottom picture I did a black and white with color filter as my model posed. For the photos to the left and right I put a black and white filter, and also edited out the tattoo on the top right shoulder. For the center I did a simple blemish fix and removed small marks (beauty marks, freckles, etc.) on the models face.

Leading Line
A line
leading the viewer visually to other objects in the distance creating more
depth. In this photo a small group of high school students are posing for a
picture behind a rail on the bleachers that leads throughout the photograph.
You can see that the railing comes from one end and follows all the way to the
other.
Horizontal
Horizontal
is when the photograph is wider than it is tall. This photo is taken at the
beach and as you can see at the horizon line there are people settled in and
enjoying the sun. The separation between the ground and the sky is clear
because of the horizon line in this picture.
Informal Balance
Informal
Balance is when multiple items catch your eye in the photograph, basically it
would be asymmetrical. In this photo you can see a lot of objects of different
colors and there are different things going on.
Formal Balance
Formal balance is when the
picture is no completely symmetrical but very similar on both sides of the
picture. As you can see there is a pair of shoes above a staircase and if you
fold it in half the sides would be somewhat similar to each other.
High Key
High
Key is when there is a lot of intense lighting. This picture was clearly taken
outside during the day. The lighting is going towards the woman standing which
creates a brighter look and not so much shadow
